WHAT TO EXPECT

Language: The official language in Indonesia is Indonesian. English is common in tourist destinations as Bali and the Gilis.

Credit cards/ATM: Major credit cards are accepted in upscale restaurants and hotels, but if you’re shopping in local markets, you’ll need cash. ATMs are common in Bali and other major areas/cities (like Jakarta) but not remote areas.

Currency: The currency in Indonesia is the Indonesian Rupiah. 1 USD is equivalent to about 13,998 IDR and 1 € to 16,912 IDR

Plugs: Voltage/frequency is 230V/50Hz; plugs have are type C. Always remember a universal adapter like this one.

Tipping: Tips are not expected but appreciated.

WHEN TO GO

The best time to visit Indonesia is definitely between May and October when the weather is dry and sunny with basically no chances of rain.
November to April is the rainy season, so while prices are much lower than high season, be prepared for intense, yet short, tropical downpours.
