Planning your next trip? Keep reading for 6 tips to avoid the most common mistakes when travel planning.

BUDGET

Easy right? Well, not really. Of course, most people must consider how much they can afford to spend before deciding where to travel. But having a budget doesn’t mean you can’t travel far away from home. There are so many beautiful and far away places much cheaper than the ones closer to home. For instance, going to SE Asia can be less expensive for an American than a trip to NYC. Going to Mexico can be cheaper than traveling to Sardinia or Formentera for a European. Also, remember that planning a trip involves many hours of searching for the best combination of flights, hotels, transfers, and tours. But all this planning can save you money, big time! While budget is a critical factor to consider when planning, there are more important ones!

SEASON

There you go! What if you have an unlimited budget and decide to go to the Maldives during the wrong season and end up with ten straight days of non-stop rain? Bad, bad idea. That is why one of the most important things to consider when choosing a destination is to do some research, people! Of course, bad weather can happen anytime, anywhere, but trying to select the best period to visit a place should be your number 1 priority.

TIME

How much time do you have for your trip? Consider it before booking a trip to the other side of the world, and by the time you get there, you have to leave after two days because your time is over.

TYPE OF TRIP

Are you traveling solo? With your sweetie? Or with your spouse and toddlers? You should definitely consider what activities you are planning to do on vacation before deciding where to go. Consider your expectations but also the needs of the people that will follow you on the way. Some destinations, such as the Caribbean or the Red Sea, can be suitable for adventurers and families. Others may be more restrictive.

HEALTH

Don’t book a trip to climb Mount Everest if you are a couch potato 364 days a year. Health is something that must be considered when traveling. Be aware that, generally, outside Europe, North America, and Australia, getting proper medical assistance can be a real struggle. Only travel to countries with terrible health care if your condition is good. And, in any case, ALWAYS have your health insurance active.

PLANNING, PLANNING, PLANNING

Guys, this is probably the most crucial piece of advice I can give you. Unless you have unlimited time for your trip and are okay with spending half of your time solving unexpected troubles, PLAN!. Planning doesn’t mean giving up on adventure; it only means taking full advantage of your time, saving your money, and minimizing the risk of unwanted situations (which could cost you a lot of money).

So guys, what do YOU consider when deciding the destination of your voyages?
