Planning your first trip to Jordan?
Here are my tips for a perfect first-time experience.

MASTER THE ART OF BUDGETING. perfect first time in Jordan tips

Jordan is quite an expensive country, probably one of the most expensive I’ve been to. That is probably because when you’re visiting Petra or the Wadi Rum, you really don’t have many options both in terms of accommodation and food (remember it’s desert all over the place). I’d suggest you book all your accommodations in advance and consider room service in hotels: I found it much more convenient than eating at restaurants.

FORGET YOUR DRONE AND YOUR UNDERWATER CAMERA

Thinking about taking your fantastic Mavic drone or your pretty new underwater camera? Well, think twice and, better, forget about it. The first things they’re going to ask the moment you step out of the plane are your passport and if you have a drone or an underwater camera. And they are super strict with it. I had a GoPro with me (outside of the case), so I just said, “this is just a GoPro,” and they let me go. But be careful, they’re going to confiscate your gear.

CHOOSE YOUR ACCOMMODATION CAREFULLY

This is a pretty good advice for any destinations but especially for Jordan. Finding a nice hotel close to Petra or booking one night in a “camp” in the Wadi Rum desert are going to save you time and money.

FIND A LOCAL DRIVER.

Driving in Jordan can be quite an adventure, but it’s not for everyone, especially if you plan to drive a lot and maybe at night. Roads can be difficult and not well maintained, and in case of an accident with a local, it’s not going to be easy.

BRING COMFY CLOTHES AND SHOES tips for a perfect first time in Jordan

If you plan to visit Petra, you’ll need comfortable shoes since the archeological site is so huge you’ll be walking for many hours, climbing endless steps (like 20,000+), and jumping around from one monument to another. Read more: The Essential Petra Travel Guide.
